Childrens kitchen sets are most commonly associated with little girls. After all, in a historically male-dominated society, household chores like cooking are typically identified with the “woman of the house”. That is, many people tend to think that participating in such tasks is unbecoming of a man. That is, many people tend to think that a little boy who plays with toy kitchens will turn out gay.
Before we go any further, let’s it clear that we will not talk about moral standards at all. In this article, let’s talk about why play kitchens are great for little boys, and how these toys will even do the opposite of what you would normally expect.
Let’s go:
1. Many great chefs are male
Okay, let’s face it: whenever we hear the word “cooking”, the most common notion that comes to our minds is the image of an old lady wearing sweaty aprons and looking all drab and domesticated. However, this is just one of the many stereotypes that we should unlearn. Contrary to popular belief, many great chefs are actually males who show no signs of effeminate behaviour. Let’s cite one concrete example.
Jamie Oliver, one of the world’s most famous chefs, is a person who strives to help people in the UK make their meals healthier and more sustainable. He is happily wed to Juliette Norton since 2000, is now the father to their four children. Now, in as far as stereotypes are concerned, the mere size of his progeny shows that he’s more alpha-male than most men out there.
2. Everybody loves good food
The old saying goes, “The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Moreover, the same adage applies to women too. If you’re a mom, how would you react if, say, your husband cooked an excellent meal for you on your first date? Wouldn’t that sweep you off your feet? On the other hand, if you’re a dad, has it ever occurred to you that a marital skirmish can be easily ironed out by something as simple as cooking a special dinner for the family? Everyone loves to eat, and cooking good food one of the sweetest way to show affection to another person.
Letting your boy play with a childrens kitchen rouses his interest in this fine craft. Who knows, he might even know how to cook a real dish or two in no time. This is skill is perfect when he reaches the age where he starts dating girls. Not only will his dates be more special and memorable for the girl, but also for the girl’s parents too, whose opinion of your child is just as important.
3. It doesn’t have to be in burning pink
There are many childrens kitchen sets out there that incorporate a more gender-neutral design. Of course, I would absolutely understand if you feel iffy about letting your little boy play with a rainbow-coloured toy. Luckily, there are models that come in red, plain white, and even in wooden hues.
For example, KidKraft Red Vintage Kitchens and Deluxe Play Kitchen Melissa & Doug are perfect pieces for your budding iron chef. With a sleek, no-nonsense, and monochromatic design, you can rest assured that your child won’t learn anything other than you intended him to.
Childrens kitchen sets are not just for girls. They are perfect learning tools for kids of all kinds.
But then, how would you deal with the idea of your son turning out gay?
Yes, it’s a difficult question to answer, but the best way to deal with it is by civil and respectful discussion.
We would love to hear your thoughts! Please post them in the comments box below.

I don’t think that playing with certain toys can make a person gay in anyway. I think it is something a lot deeper than that. If my daughter came to me and told me she was gay, I would be okay with that because I love her….unconditionally!!
My 3 year old nephew plays with my daughters dolls all the time. I don’t think it’s going to make him gay. I don’t think he knows that a certain toy belongs to girls only, he just plays with it because my daughter plays with it too. Neither a toy or another person can make someone gay.
